Sony Alpha Digital SLR Camera:

Today's paper (I don't remember if it was the NY Times or the Wall St. Journal) announced the impending arrival of a new 10 MP digital SLR camera. Not only is it under $1000 (which is nearly half of what the 10 MP Nikon D200 costs) but Sony is also working with Carl Zeiss to produce high-end lenses for it.
I must say the snob in me feels that a Sony camera could never be as good as a Nikon or Canon, but Sony has just basically merged with Minolta (or I guess I should say Minolta just folded its camera business and gave its technology to Sony) which should make this a high quality camera.
I can't wait to see what user reviewers say about it over the next couple months. Maybe this will be my birthday present. (Hint, hint.)

Dang. Nice camera. Fingers crossed...

Hey; you might have seen this. If not, I thought you might appreciate it.

bI want that, too! Since I can't paint anymore, I was thinking that photography would be a good new hobby and that I need a camera like THAT.

I like Bri's suggestion...my dad should find a two-for-one deal for us in honor of our Sept. birthdays!

oops, somehow an extra "b" got in front of my post, sorry.

I completely agree. Why don't you suggest that to your father?!

Weasel, El Lissitzky's photos are downright creepy. COol, creepy, of course.

Nat's got a blog? The whole S. clan seems to be out and about on the internets.

Wes--does none of your Nikon glass work on the Nikon digital models? There's a lot less available, now, in that Minolta mount than in Nikon/Canon.

I got to play with the Olympus over the weekend. It's a strange, strange shape, and takes some getting used to, but I saw the images today and the lenses are NICE.

Bill, unfortunately none of my Nikon lenses work. They are all pre-1975 I'd guess. So, it's no benefit for me to get the Nikon.
So, the Olympus shots are good? How do you think it compares to Nikon?

The lenses are really good. Of that I'm sure. It's apparently not great in low light. FWIW.
